I Prefer McDonald’s Commercials for Black Kids

I know which McDonald’s commercials are targeted towards me, a young, successful Caucasian man edging ever closer to a family life in the suburbs. I know that commercial about the kids being excited when “dad” cooks because it means that he brings home Chicken McNuggets is teaching me how to be a parent. The commercials that talk about how kids can get carrots in their happy meal instead of fries is for me, the father of a 3-year-old boy getting ready to go to preschool as I get ready to buy my first house outside the city. I know that the advertisements about the new line of salads and the healthy alternatives that are possible at McDonald’s are for me, a man who just passed thirty and no longer has the metabolism that can put away a Big Mac meal and never put on a pound. I know which commercials were made just for me.
But I like the ones directed towards black kids. I like rap music and playing basketball while wearing rollerblades. I like when they misspell words to appeal to my rebellious side. I view graffiti as art and expression. I want to eat my chicken sandwich on a stoop that looks like Brooklyn. So whoever the demographics guys are at McDonald’s, they got it all wrong, because the commercials targeting black kids are attracting me.
Wait, unless, that’s what they meant to do.
