Area Clown Not Evil
EVANSTON, IL -- Local clown Rob Daugherty, aka “Giggles,” is changing the way we think about clowning. Giggles enjoys entertaining children. And that’s it.
The unusual clown, who has been performing for years at birthday parties, bar mitzvahs and grammar schools, has not once been convicted or even accused of a crime. Needless to say, area residents are mystified.
“We hired Giggles for my son Tyler’s 7th birthday,” remembered father of two, Michael Curtain. “Of course I expected Giggles to try to put his hands down some kid’s pants, but all he did was make balloon animals. The children loved him.
“It was weird,” Curtain added.
Allison Cruz recounted her own experience with Giggles.
“I made a point of meeting Giggles at his home before hiring him to perform for my daughter’s First Communion,” said the concerned mother. “I expected to find corpses in the basement. Maybe a finger, toe or some other “trophy” in the medicine cabinet. Nothing. If he’s hiding kids’ carcasses, he’s doing a great job.
“Funny clown, by the way,” Feldstein said laughing.
Giggles’ website boasts referral after referral from satisfied parents and educators. Some of the rave reviews include:
•“He was terrific. He didn’t even try to take our son to the bathroom for ‘alone time.’”
•“Great show! And not one kidnapping attempt!”
•“Giggles came to our home UNARMED!!!”
Evanston Police Sergeant Mark Crittenden also finds Giggle’s behavior strange.
“When I hear a clown is performing at one of our day camps, I just park my squad car by the lake and wait for the bodies to surface.”
Sgt. Crittenden shook his head.
“Not with Giggles. I don’t get it.”
When asked about his unorthodox take on clowning, Giggles said he just wants to make the children smile.
“Being a clown isn’t about molesting or murdering. It’s about giving kids happy memories. Their lives will be difficult and lonely enough as it is.”
Giggles took a long swig from a bottle of Wild Turkey and stared at the pouring rain outside his window.
“Hopefully they won’t go into clowning.”
